A Doctor’s Journey After Her Husband’s "False Arrest": Did Justice Fails
West Palm Beach, Fl - "When Justice Fails: A Doctor’s Journey After Her Husband’s 'False Arrest'" tells the story of how Dr. Kirchevshy-Ur's life was turned upside down. Her husband, David Ur, was not just another officer in uniform. Law enforcement was in his blood. “He came from a long family line of Police Officers,” Lana recalls. “He wanted this more than anything. It was a dream he worked hard to achieve, even later in life.”
She tells their story on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available for free on their website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms.
In the quiet coastal city of Palm Coast, Florida, Dr. Svetlana “Lana” Kirchevshy-Ur is best known for her compassion. A Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician with an Internal Medicine background, her career has been built on years of service in nursing, homecare, and hemodialysis. To her patients, she is steady, caring, and deeply devoted.
But behind the white Doctor's Coat is a woman whose life has been anything but calm. Lana has been navigating a storm that few could imagine, a fight that began when her husband’s dream career in law enforcement turned into a nightmare.
The couple relocated from New Jersey to Florida during Lana’s medical residency in Gainesville. On May 14, 2020, David finally saw that dream come true. He was hired by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after graduating from the police academy and completing field training. By August, he was serving his first assignment in the patrol division.
But within months, cracks began to show. According to David’s complaint, his detailed reporting style clashed with the department’s expectations. On May 10, 2021, less than a year after putting on the badge, David resigned “under duress,” threatened with criminal charges for allegedly making “false reports.”
Two days later, the threat became reality. David was arrested on four counts of making false official statements, charges tied to a drug arrest. “There were no allegations of any crime committed by my husband,” Lana stresses.
The legal ordeal stretched on for years. “The State Attorney’s Office kept refiling and changing charges,” she explains. “But in the end, 18 of the 20 charges were dismissed by a judge, and the last two were dropped.”
Yet even vindication carried scars. David’s name remains on the Fifth Circuit State Attorney’s Brady list, a designation for officers with alleged credibility concerns. The label effectively blocks him from working in law enforcement again.
The Ocala Gazette reported in October 2024 that the Brady list’s application is inconsistent, some officers with proven internal dishonesty findings were never listed, while others, like David, were included for what appeared to be procedural disputes. For David, it wasn’t just a list, it was a career death sentence.
“We endured things I never imagined we would,” Lana reflects. “Public accusations, fear for our safety, financial strain. And yet, through it all, we had to keep moving forward.”
After finishing her residency, Lana and David relocated to Palm Coast seeking a fresh start. What they found was unexpected healing. Together, they launched Rustic Dough Works, a pizza trailer that quickly became a community favorite. “It’s our way of rebuilding,” Lana says. “You can find us on Facebook, we post where we’ll be, and the community has been amazing.”
But the fight is far from over. David is exploring legal options to clear his name and has filed lawsuits against the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. “We believe in accountability,” Lana emphasizes. “What happened to David could happen to others. People need to know our story.”
Their journey has become larger than just their family. It has sparked conversations about fairness, flawed systems, and resilience. Through interviews, features, and an appearance on The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available for free on their website, also on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, the couple continues to share their story. They’ve taken to platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to connect with others who feel silenced by similar struggles.
“This is bigger than us,” Lana says. “It’s about standing up when the truth matters more than the consequences.”
From a physician’s clinic to a pizza oven, from the streets of Marion County to the pages of news outlets and podcasts, Lana and David’s story is not just one of loss, but of perseverance. Their scars remain, but so does their strength.
And as for what comes next? That chapter is still being written.
