From Filmmaker to Advocate for Post-Traumatic Growth: Her Journey

Jen Satterly's path from filmmaker to a passionate advocate for post-traumatic growth reveals a story of resilience and compassion. Her work, driven by a mission to heal not only individuals but entire families affected by trauma, has become a beacon of hope for the Special Operations community. In a moving episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast titled "Her Triumph Over PTSD, In Marriage and Life," Jen shares her transformative journey, available for free on the show's website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major streaming platforms.

"Being embedded in that world opened my eyes not only to the courage of our warriors," Jen said, "but also to the invisible wounds they carry, wounds that follow them home."

Initially a creative force in advertising and filmmaking, Jen's career took her into the intense world of elite military units, including Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, and Green Berets. While documenting their grueling war simulation exercises, she noticed the emotional toll etched into their faces, a silent testament to the burdens they carried.

It was during this time that Jen met Tom Satterly, a decorated Delta Force veteran whose service included the infamous Battle of Mogadishu, depicted in "Black Hawk Down". Though their connection was immediate, Jen quickly realized that loving someone with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) meant confronting significant challenges. "PTS doesn’t just affect the veteran," she explained. "It’s a battle that affects the entire household. Spouses and children experience what’s called complex secondary PTSD. They become collateral damage in a war they never signed up for."

Rather than letting these challenges tear them apart, Jen and Tom chose to fight together, not only for their own healing but for others facing similar struggles. This commitment led to the creation of the All Secure Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Special Operations warriors and their families in overcoming the trauma of war. Jen left her filmmaking career, became a certified health and wellness coach, and devoted herself to this cause full-time.

"She didn’t just marry me," Tom said of his wife. "She married the mission. And together, we’re bringing light to a very dark place."

Jen also co-authored "Arsenal of Hope", a practical guide that blends scientific research with personal insights to offer tools for managing PTSD. "Arsenal of Hope isn’t just a book," Jen noted. "It’s a lifeline for anyone who feels like they’re drowning." The book reflects her straightforward approach, often infused with humor born from lived experience.

Beyond the foundation, Jen founded Virago, a platform named after the Latin word for a strong woman, to support women dealing with PTSD at home. Virago offers community, education, and empowerment for those who often suffer in silence. Through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, Jen and Tom have cultivated a vibrant online community. Their podcast, "All Secure", features candid conversations about trauma, recovery, and the realities of healing behind closed doors.

The "Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast" episode provides an intimate look at the challenges of military marriages and the path to PTSD recovery. Promoted across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and Medium, the episode is easily accessible for anyone seeking inspiration.

The All Secure Foundation has grown to serve thousands of veterans and their families, earning recognition as a trusted leader in the field. By addressing both the visible and invisible wounds of war, Jen and Tom are redefining what healing looks like, particularly for the often-overlooked Special Forces community.

While Tom’s legacy was forged in battles like Mogadishu, the couple’s shared legacy is being built in quieter moments, in therapy sessions, shared struggles, and moments of hope. For Jen, the mission is simple yet profound: transform pain into purpose and empower others to do the same.
